A Lifetime of Resolutions
A Lifetime of Resolutions by Debra H. Goldstein
The 2025 holidays are almost behind us. As part of celebrating the beginning of a new year, people tend to make resolutions. I stopped doing annual ones several years ago when I realized they were often short sighted. Instead, I’ve tried to live a life that exemplifies my resolutions.
Here’s a few:
My legal and writing career:

A combination of career and life in general:

The others still exist, but this is the most important one now:

What exemplifies you? Did you make any resolutions for 2026?
Happy Holidays!

I love your words to live by, Debra. Wishing you the very best in 2026!
Gay,
Thank you. Appreciate your comment. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2026.
Debra, I’ve never been a NY resolution person. I always believed that if you want to do something (write a book, run a marathon, take a course etc.) that the time to start doing it (or at least starting it and/or the training) was when I decided it was something I wanted to do. Why wait for some arbitrary day like Jan. 1? That said, I always view every Jan. 1 reflecting a bit on the past and thoughts of what I hope the year will bring (a better golf game!). Mostly I wish for good health and a clear mind, and I wish the same to you and yours!
Judy,
Must agree with you. Wishing you the best.
I have never been much of a resolution or goal oriented person. I believe in living each day as it comes. If i realize I need to change or do something, I set out to do just that, regardless of day. I try to see each new day as the opportunity to be grateful for what I have and consider how I can share or help another. I do try to reflect back at the beginning of the year on where I succeeded and where I need to improve, especially sharing and helping others. Here’s to a year already filled with blessings and a grand year ahead!
Marcia,
You live wisely. Happy 2026.
This post is adorable, and so like you to be clever and practical and wise all at once. Wishing you the best in 2026–in all areas of your life.
Saralyn,
Thank you. Wishing you and your new puppy a fun 2026.
I’ve never done New Year’s resolutions, but I do set goals for myself and work toward them throughout the year. I do have a few aphorisms I live by, like “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I scream that one every time Microsoft updates Word! 😉
Lois,
I more than understand! Happy holidays to you and yours.
The perfect message for me to read today! After family this year (I’m now a great grandmother!), my resolution is to have my father’s 100 letters to me in book form for them Christmas 2026! You are my inspiration!
Mazel tov on becoming a great-grandmother. That is a joy and feat unto itself. The letters will be treasured when you pull them together. Happy Holidays.
Try your best, do your best, and then let it go.
Agree!
Beautiful thoughts!
Thank you.
It’s time for a visit. I resolve to see you soon. 😊 Happy New Year!
Sounds like a plan.
My only goals are publishing deadlines. And, this year, to be recovered by February, or August, from my torn patellar tendon. So, PT and writing. That’s about it. I love yours!
Hopefully all your resolutions will be as timely as you hope.
