We are at war. Again.

I am old enough to remember the 1970 song “War” and its iconic refrain: “War, huh! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!” And yet—here we are. Again and again and again.

And those are just the ones involving my lifetime and my country.

This is not a simple or comfortable question—but it’s one we avoid at our peril.

When will we ever learn? Unfortunately, history has taught us the answer to that is never. Humankind seems incapable of learning from our mistakes. So we keep making the same ones, over and over, hoping for a different outcome. What fools these mortals are!

Wars are happening because many people are prejudiced, judgmental, unaccepting, righteous, and angry. Despite that or because of it, some wars are necessary to keep the situation from getting worse. I’d like to think everyone on the planet can one day accept and love one another, but I’m not holding my breath.
